A 100 years of Summer Sensations! Centenary celebrations are always poignant and 100 years since the end of the Great War have sparked many commemoration celebrations around the UK and Europe.  Choir 86 acknowledge this in their forthcoming Summer concerts and want to add to the trip down “memory lane” by performing songs from every decade since the 1920’s.  This ensures that there is something for everyone to enjoy in these concerts. The selection reflects the evolution of popular music through the century and the emergence of the “pop-group” is reflected by the accompaniment of the Choir by “The Teach Boys”, an ad-hoc Band of Teachers associated with Choir 86. Christmas around the World - revised venue pdf Due to circumstances beyond our control, it has been necessary to change the venue for our concert on Monday 10th December.   This will now take place at St Pauls Church, Devon Square, Newton Abbot.   Any tickets previously purchase will be honoured at the new venue. Tickets will also be available on the door.

Choir 86 are proud to bring your Howard Goodall's - Eternal Light and Handel's Coronation Anthems this Easter. Eternal Light was commissioned in 2008 and has received countless performances since then, making it his most popular choral composition.   Goodall takes an unorthodox and unusual approach to a work which is traditionally a prayer for the souls of the departed.  Eternal Light focuses instead on those who are left to grieve at the loss of a loved one.  In talking about this piece he has referred to the power of music to heal and to create a sense of comfort whilst still acknowledging the painful loss.  His intention is to seek out the healing power of music, to create a sense of solace whilst acknowledging the unbearable loss and emptiness following the death of a loved one.  Howard describes Eternal Light as a Requiem for the living, using poetry readings and hymns alongside the more familiar text of the mass. Handel’s Coronation Anthems were composed for the coronation of George II in 1727 and since then have formed a key element in the English Choral tradition.  Zadok the Priest has been performed at all subsequent coronations and the other anthems have the same majestic grandeur. An exciting programme, not to be missed.
