Rosie Penny
I have always lived and worked in Devon and I am married to David. We have two grown up children who share our love of music and are musicians themselves.
I graduated from Exeter University with a B.Ed (Music) degree. I have a diploma in piano performance and have taught piano and singing, as well as being a very poor organist due to my lack of stature!
My teaching career developed over thirty-four years within six schools. At first I was appointed as a Music Teacher and during this time I became involved as an alto with the Ron Thompson Singers in Torquay. When Ron decided to retire I bravely took up the baton and remained the conductor of Choir 86 for ten years. At that time, my second child arrived and I needed to spend more time with my family during evenings as I was still working full-time.
As a Music Teacher, promotion in my career came quickly, and from Head of Music Departments I finally combined my love of Art, Drama, Music and Performance to become Head of Performing Arts in two large community colleges.
The students I have taught have been aged from four to eighteen, allowing me to teach Music through GCSE, BTEC and A Level. I have also arranged music for instruments and voices, organised and conducted choirs, bands and orchestras as well as producing and directing many varied shows and concerts both in school and for prestigious functions in the community. I have been very privileged to have conducted the Royal Marine Band on occasions much to the amusement of the students watching!!!!
My music philosophy has always been to encourage everyone to perform to their true potential. I will strive to provide opportunities to allow progression, challenges and high quality performances. To achieve this end we must, as a group, ensure enjoyment and enthusiasm are part of our weekly rehearsals.
